Will Used Car Prices Ever Drop?

The boffins at Cap HPI have revealed that 2021 saw an even bigger price hike right across the used car sector than even many experts had predicted.  Taking into account the full range of fuel type vehicles the market was over 27% higher than at the start of the year.

And, of course, there were many models that rose in price far higher than that.

Speaking to Car Dealer mag, Cap HPI said that a three-year old 2012-2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid with 30,000 miles on the clock would get a hike of nearly 70%, such was the demand for the vehicle.

Given that many industry experts see little reason for the market to re-adjust down anytime in the near future, we have to wonder if these high prices are the new norm?

Cap HPI gave Car Dealer mag a full list of the top values for used cars in the last 12 months, the top five being:

1. Toyota Auris Hybrid (2012-2019) up an average of almost £7,000
2. Vauxhall Zafira (2012-2018) up nearly £6,000
3. Kia Soul (14-19) Electric up almost £7,000
4. Vauxhall Combo Life (18- ) rose over five grand
5. Mercedes-Benz V-Class (14-19) diesel sold for more than £15,000 than previously
