Road Safety Week: Slow Down!

Breakdown organisation GEM has used Global Road Safety Week to call for new speed reduction initiatives to reduce vehicle speeds.  Here at Need To Know Motors we support GEM in this call.

There is no getting away from the fact that the slower a person is hit by a vehicle, the better their chances of survival. For example, a recent study showed that limiting speeds to 20mph reduces fatalities by over 60%. And it seems that the majority of drivers agree that Twenty is Plenty in villages, towns and cities.

GEM chief exec, Neil Worth, said: “Low speed on roads can help save lives and are the heart of any community. 20mph speed limits where people and traffic mix make for streets that are healthy, green and liveable. That’s why the UN is calling them ‘streets for life.”

Get in, Neil, we’re on your side, mate.
