Canny Yorkshireman Robin Luscombe, MD at Leeds-based Luscombe Motors, has had one hell of a week. Not only has he landed a huge deal supplying 280 MG5 EVs to Uber drivers, he is also reporting record profits for the year ending May 2021.
Robin has celebrated by giving each member of his excellent staff a decent profit-share bonus – and people say Yorkshiremen are tight! Let this be a lesson to Southern naysayers!
The EV order for Uber drivers across the country will be fulfilled in early 2022 and is one of the best deals Mr Luscombe could ever have imagined, he says, giving credit to his head of national fleet operations, Tim Whitworth:
“Tim has an extensive network in the fleet world, and MG is the perfect car for business use – great value, low running costs, clean, and very tax efficient – so we couldn’t have timed it any better!
“We have the cars and the funding options, and whilst it might not be as big as the Tesla deal, 11 years’ ago when I opened the business, I would never have dreamed of selling 300 cars in a week,” says Robin.
