Lockdown Britain Scraps Third More Cars for Cash

Research is showing that Brits scrapped a third more cars in 2020, with reduced travel and a need for cash being blamed, with a record 37,000 sent to the big garage in the sky.

Scrap Car Network’s study pinpoints the key scrapping regions of the UK, with Birmingham leading the way with 3,600 cars scrapped, followed closely by Manchester (almost 3,000), Liverpool (1,964) and Newcastle (1,909). Glasgow leads the way in Scotland with 1,812 cars scrapped in 2020.

The North West accounts for around one third of all UK cars scrapped, while in Wales they keep hold of their cars, scrapping only 957.
