AM is reporting the terrible news (if it’s acknowledged to be true) that Stellantis is going down the agency model for vehicle sales, much as many dealers expect most manufacturers to do. AM says that Stellantis has “laid down the law” to its UK franchisees and that 2027 is the target for a major shift to agency-style retail agreements.
So that’s every retailer of Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep now worried to hell as they fear the worst for their businesses. Businesses they have built up as partnerships with their manufacturers. ‘Partnerships’. Shall we all just look up the meaning of that word? It’s a two-way relationship, apparently.
Of course, Stellantis isn’t the only one involved here. We have been reporting for months to creeping popularity of the agency model. We have all seen the writing on the wall.
But if what AM is reporting is anywhere near the truth, then these mainstream manufacturers are indeed ringing in the new with a hammer blow.
