Now, we do know a little bit about Jeff Koons, the artist and former bad boy famous in the 80s for marrying porn star Cicciolina and nowadays better known for selling artworks for $millions. But he’s no Banksy, in our humble opinion.
That didn’t stop BMW getting together with him for a second time to design a special edition of the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe, for sale in a limited collector’s edition after its world premiere at Frieze Los Angeles in February 2022.
We say ‘second time’ because back in 2010 Koons created a unique BMW M3 GT2 Art Car for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
BMW are issuing the media with teasing photos of little details here and there, not the whole car. But you’ll be pleased to know that on YouTube is the performance of getting the original Koons car almost 2,000 feet up the stunning Pulpit Rock in western Norway for a publicity stunt/photo opp. It’s a right palaver, but worth a couple of minutes of your time.
As far as we can see this took not one but three helicopters and a whole load of hangers on – literally as they had to ensure the Beemer didn’t just roll back down the cliff. It’s a spectacular setting: have a look here: Spy shots of BMW Art Car: M3 GT2 by Jeff Koons on Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), Norway – YouTube
